Biologists of the American Museum of Natural history and of City College of City University of New York (CUNY) have discovered that the bears grizzly are occupying the territory of the polar bears. It is a question of a study realized in the National park of Wapusk (Canada), where the bears sightings grizzly have increased recently.
Robert F. Rockwell, teacher of the CUNY has mentioned that “the Bears Grizzly are a new species in the habitat, and are a potential competition for the polar bears that live in this area”
The first observation was in August, 2008 while they were investigating the dens of the foxes from a helicopter. This impelled the investigators to look at the previous records to obtain an idea of the population of bears in the park. There were no bears evidences grizzly before 1996, not even in the information of centuries of exploration of Hudson Bay Company. Nevertheless, between 1996 and 2008 the team found nine confirmed sightings, and in the summer 2009 there were three more remarks.
One believed that the arid scenery of the north of the Bay Hudson was a breach that these bears could not cross, but it seems that his flexible diet has allowed them to emigrate to these places. Now when some bears grizzly have come to the plenty of the National park of Wapusk, with big quantities of fish, bay, caribús and elks, they wonder when they will form a stable colony.
The problem is that the Grizzly can kill the babies of polar bear in addition to stealing the preys from them and his survival is more difficult to them. It is still not known if these sightings belong to stable population or vagabonds, the test will come when there are realized sightings of pups, of that time it will be possible to be said that they are residents of the park.
